Bitski Self-Custody: Bring Your Keys to the Friendliest Wallet for Crypto and NFTs

We’ve all heard the phrase “not your keys, not your crypto.” One of the exciting aspects of blockchain technology is to let users take full control over their digital assets. This enables users to bring those assets to whatever wallet, dApp, or other use case.

Up until now, we’ve only supported the Bitski Vault for our users. We’re excited to share our new self-custody wallet solution, now available to our beta community on the Bitski mobile wallet and browser extension. Hardware wallet support coming soon.

At Bitski, we believe that users should have the ultimate choice of how they want to store their assets. For a user that’s worried about the responsibility of custodying their keys, our Bitski Vault solution makes it easy to participate in Web3 without the hassle of hiding scraps of paper throughout your home. The Bitski “Vault” is a hosted wallet. Imagine a Ledger or similar hardware wallet, but sitting in geographically redundant, biometrically secure server rooms.

This makes using the Bitski Vault as simple as using Gmail or your traditional online banking experience. But for users who want to custody their own keys, in addition to their login methods, we’re excited to finally give users one of the best NFT experiences a wallet can offer.

Why would I want to import my keys?

The Bitski wallet offers a number of unique solutions to keep you safe while you explore Web3. It’s also the most NFT friendly mobile wallet on the market. Some ways to see this in action in your Bitski Wallet:

1. Try signing a transaction on OpenSea. Bitski simulates all transactions (in collaboration with our partners at Blowfish) to let you preview and verify that you’re not getting scammed.

1. Check out our refreshed activity feed to see the most human readable activity feed in Web3.

1. Find real value in push notifications, containing useful information at a glance, such as new tokens received, an item being sold, etc.

Are my private keys safe?

Yes! Imported wallet keys never leave your device. They're never sent to Bitski and never stored on any Bitski servers. They are only encrypted locally and saved onto your local iOS device and used to create cryptographic signatures that are sent to the blockchain.

Bitski's current tech stack is protected with industry standard SOC II compliant security. If you are comfortable using products from Google or Microsoft, or traditional online banking, then Bitski should meet your standards.

Bitski does not have access to your imported wallets keys, but these private keys will be stored on your iOS device. This means that if you lose your phone or download malware onto your phone, it’s possible the imported keys may be exposed (which is typical of all self-custody wallets).
